This article addresses the main predictors of adult education, using statistical methods different from those generally used by social science researchers. Its aim is twofold. First, it seeks to explain in a simple and comprehensible manner the methodological value of these methods (in relation to the use of structural models); secondly, it demonstrates the concrete usefulness of these methods on the basis of a recent piece of research on the data from the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS).

Effect of inoculation with selected Bradyrhizobium spp. on the survival and growth of Acacia mangium saplings after 20 months in the field

This work was designed to test the long-term effect of the inoculation of #Acacia mangium# seedlings with 10 selected strains of #Bradyrhizobium spp.#. The percentage of survival of seedlings inoculated with any of the #Bradyrhizobium# strains was increased by 10% as compared to the control plants. However, out of the 10 #Bradyrhizobium# strains tested, only 3 strains, Aust l3c, Lu 4 and Tel 8, belonging to the phylogenelic group 1, significandy enhanced the growth of #A. mangium# after 20 months in the field. Les parcours d'insertion des jeunes

Cet article présente une méthode pour élaborer des typologies d'itinéraires individuels qui prenne en compte la dynamique longitudinale des parcours. Elle s'applique lorsque ces itinéraires sont décrits à partir de calendriers. L'originalité de cette méthode réside à la fois dans le mode de calcul de la distance entre trajectoires, et dans la procédure de classification basée sur les cartes d'auto-organisation de Kohonen. La propriété principale de la distance est de prendre en compte de la proximité entre les états et son évolution dans le temps.
